Phillip May

Phillip May is President and CEO of Entergy Louisiana, an electric utility that serves more than 1.1 million customers in 58 Louisiana parishes. He is responsible for the company’s safe and reliable service, financial performance, customer service, regulatory and public affairs, resource planning, economic development programs and charitable contributions. May is deeply engaged in maximizing Louisiana’s unprecedented economic growth opportunities and has strategically positioned the company to meet evolving customer expectations by advancing grid resilience, reliability, and sustainability. This vision includes Louisiana’s first comprehensive $1.9 billion grid resilience plan and the modernization of the generation fleet to address growing demand for low- and no-carbon energy.

Building on these successes, May has transformed Entergy Louisiana into a catalyst for economic resurgence. In 2024, he played a pivotal role in attracting Meta’s largest AI data center to Richland Parish. This landmark project, which involves substantial infrastructure investment, is expected to create hundreds of jobs and foster technological innovation in the region, positioning Richland Parish as a hub for advanced technology. In 2025, May was instrumental in bringing Hyundai Steel’s $6 billion ultra-low carbon steel production mill to Louisiana. The mill is anticipated to generate thousands of new, local employment opportunities and support Hyundai Steel’s cutting-edge, low-carbon manufacturing processes. Both projects were recognized with Business Facilities Magazine’s Platinum Deal of the Year award, making Louisiana the only state to win the honor in two consecutive years. These and other economic successes have positioned Entergy as a leader in industry growth.

In addition to these economic wins, under May’s leadership, Entergy Louisiana completed the construction and commercial operation of approximately 3,000 megawatts of modern, efficient generation units, with an additional 9,000 megawatts currently in development. During this period, the company also expanded its portfolio with renewable resources, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and clean energy.

Previously, May led the successful consolidation of Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana operating companies, forming a single, stronger utility to better serve customers statewide.
May joined Entergy in 1986 and has held numerous leadership positions.

May serves on the Board of Directors for the Electric Power Research Institute, the Louisiana Board of Regents; GNO, Inc.; Council for a Better Louisiana, Dean’s Advisory Council for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette College of Engineering, and the Louisiana Association of United Way.

May received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Orleans. He also completed the mergers and acquisitions program at the Wharton School in Philadelphia, PA.
